About

After 36 years of community journalism, this blog is one of the ways I slake my jones for telling stories and painting word pictures. My first novel, “The Next Cool Place” has been published through Kindle and Smashwords and all of its affiliates, and my work on a sequel to that (second of a planned trilogy) has taken most of my blogging time . The second book with a working title, “Acorn”  is nearly ready for publications, hopefully by the end of June.

In retirement, I now fully understand the lament: “I woke up this morning with nothing to do, and by dark it’s only half done.”

I live in Southeast Iowa with my best fishing companion and wife of 43 years, two yellow labrador retrievers and a fully engaged zest for the next trip “out there.”

I hope you’ll enjoy these ramblings, and if you’re new to this site, please read the introductory entry to get a full understanding of what this is all about.

Look forward to reading your comments to this work/play.

Hello stranger! Ron forwarded me an email announcing your new book. How exciting! I just started it and it already has pulled me in. You’ve always been such a great story-teller. I am excited for you in this new adventure in your life. Congrats! Julie Frazier
p.s. Kevin and I just got a yellow lab–Taffy– she is 6 months old now and we just love her!

      Julie,
Did you finish The Next Cool Place? Did you hate it so much you wouldn’t rate it or review it? I really hope not; if you hated it, perhaps you could tell me why at davidandsusie.balcom@gmail.com? Thanks.
